KING'S FOOTBALL FALLS TO DEFENDING MAC CHAMPION DELAWARE VALLEY

DOYLESTOWN – Three-time defending Middle Atlantic Conference Delaware Valley College held visiting King's College to 147 yards of total offense and returned two interceptions for touchdowns as the Aggies posted a 54-13 victory Saturday at James Work Memorial Stadium in Doylestown.
With the win, Delaware Valley, ranked ninth nationally, improved to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in the MAC. King's, meanwhile, slipped to 1-5 and 1-4 in conference play.
The Aggies opened the scoring on the third possession of the game with a seven-play, 67-yard drive capped by a four- pass from Aaron Wilmer to Tyler Neal. The extra-point kick gave Delaware Valley a 7-0 with 9:05 left in the first quarter.
The Aggies would force a King's punt and took over at its own 38. Delaware Valley immediately went to work when Wilmer avoided a sack and scrambled for a 14-yard gain to the King's 48. On the next play Wilmer found Isaiah Hall for what appeared to be a short gain near the right sideline, but the Aggie receiver reversed his field back to the left sideline and raced 42 yards for a touchdown. The point-after gave the Delaware Valley a 14-0 lead with 4:01 remaining in the opening stanza.
On King's next possession quarterback
Joe Kirchon found
Eric Ofcharsky on a 14-yard screen pass, then hooked up with
Jay Torres for a 10-yard gain to the King's 47. After a six-yard pass to fullback
Jordan Haddock, Kirchon attempted another screen pass to Ofcharsky, but Aggie linebacker Jim DiLisio intercepted the pass and raced 48 yards to the end zone. The Aggies missed the extra-point kick as Delaware Valley built a 21-0 lead with 2:10 left in the first quarter.
King's caught a break two possessions later when the Aggies botched a punt snap deep in its own territory, giving the Monarchs the ball at the one. On second down, Kirchon got the Monarchs on the scoreboard when he hit pay dirt on a bootleg from two yards out.
Mike Lloyd made good on the point after as King's closed to within 20-7 with 11:25 left in the second quarter.
The Aggies, however, answered with a nine-play, 66-yard drive, capped by a 15-yard touchdown passfrom Wilmer to Lewis Vincent. The extra-point kick gave the Aggies a 27-7 lead with 7:31 remaining in the first half.
After a short King's punt and a 10-yard return by Pete O'Hara, the Aggies regained possession at the King's 26. The Aggies used three plays as Mike McHugh capped a three-play, 26 yard drive on a touchdown catch from Wilmer with 1:16 left on the clock as the lead swelled to 34-7
Things would get worse for the Monarchs on the second play of its next possession when DiLisio registered his second scoring interception of the day when he picked off Kirchon and returned the offering 13 yards for a touchdown with 1:05 on the clock. The point-after gave the Aggies a 41-7 lead at the half.
In the second half, the Aggies struck again on the second possession of the third quarter. Taking over at its own 44 following a King's punt, Delaware Valley marched to the Monarch one-yard line where Kyle Shuberth capped a nine-play, 56-yard drive with a running touchdown. The extra-point kick upped the Aggie lead to 48-7 with 7:51 remaining in the third stanza.
King's later came up with another scoring opportunity when the Monarchs recovered a fumble at the Aggie eight-yard line. The Monarchs would find the end zone for the second time in the game when

Jay Torres on a second-down eight-yard scoring toss with 3:05 left in the third quarter. Lloyd, however, would miss his first extra-point kick of the season as the Monarchs cut the score to 48-13.
The Aggie reserves added a late score when Darren Parrott scored on a one-yard run to cap a 15-play, 76 yard drive with 1:41 left in the contest.
Offensively, King's struggled the entire game. Kirchon completed 10-of-25 passes for 67 yards and three interceptions, two which were returned for touchdowns. Daly came off the bench and was 6-for-16 for 39 yards and one touchdown.
Kyle McGrath rushed for 24 yards on nine carries while
Eric Ofcharsky followed with 18 yards on eight attempts.
Jay Torres hauled in five passes for 37 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively for the Monarchs,
Evan Crisman and
Ryan Kelly posted nine tackles apiece while
Ryan Cordingly and
Andrew Yablonsky tallied seven and five stops respectively.
Offensively for the Aggies, Wilmer completed 15-of-25 passes for 190 yards and four touchdowns while Schuberth rushed for 84 yards on 13 carries and one score. Hall had five receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown while Rodney Blango also added five catches for 77 yards. The Aggies amassed 25 first downs compared to 10 for King's
Delaware Valley outgained King's 396-to-147 in total offense and held the Monarchs to just 41 rushing yards. Mike Jakowski posted seven tackles for the Aggies while John Robinson followed with nine.
King's returns to action Saturday when the Monarchs host cross-town rival Wilkes University in the annual Mayor's Cup Game. The game will also be televised locally on WQMY-TV. It will also mark Family and Friends Weekend at King's.
