KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER POSTS 2-1 OVERTIME WIN OVER MANHATTANVILLE
WILKES-
BARRE – Freshman midfielder
Samantha Beadle scored the game-winning goal in the first period of overtime as the King's College women's soccer team closed out the 2011 season with a 2-1 victory over visiting
Manhattanville College Sunday at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win, King's ended an injury-plagued campaign with a 4-15 record, posting three more victories than it did a year ago. The Lady Monarchs also won its first Freedom Conference game of the season.
Manhattanville, meanwhile, ended its year with a 2-17 overall and 1-6 in conference.
Manhattanville broke open a scoreless first half when Morgan
Rebolall scored on a shot that deflected off the post, then the crossbar with just 3:01 remaining in the opening stanza.
In the second half King's knotted the score at 1-1 at the 57:09 mark when Katie
Mangan scored following a pass into the box by Liz
Paese. Mangan, who had not played since being diagnosed with an illness after the fourth game of the season, picked a perfect time to net her first score of the year.
Neither team scored again until the first overtime period when Beadle drilled in a direct kick from 25 yards to seal the victory for the Lady Monarchs.
King's outshot
Manhattanville 13-8 and held a 5-3 advantage in penalty corners.
Lady Monarch goalie Lauren
Duguid posted three saves, as did Valiant keeper Brianna
Scapperotti.
