Women's Soccer Falls to New Jersey City in Season-Opener

KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS IN SEASON OPENER TO NEW JERSEY CITY

JERSEY CITY, NJ -- Jen Albuja scored twice and dished out two assists and the host New Jersey City University women's soccer team broke open a 1-1 game at the half with four second half goals over a near 16 minute span as the Gothic Knights posted a 5-1 victory over King's College in the season-opener for both teams Thursday in Jersey City.
King's took a 1-0 lead at 14:25 in the first half when Brianne Schmidt struck net off an assist from Katie Mangan. New Jersey City immediately responded when Jen Albuja scored following a pass by Julia Caseres just 0:46 later as the teams entered the halftime break deadlocked in a 1-1 tie.

In the second stanza, goals by Albuja, Olympia Sciortino, Julia Caseres and Brianna Taylor pushed the New Jersey City lead to 5-1 after 11:34 of the second half had expired.
The Gothic Knights added a final goal from Caseres with 8:22 left in the contest.
New Jersey City outshot King's 32-13 and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. Lauren Duguid made 11 saves for King's.

The Lady Monarchs will play against Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. matchup at D'Youvillle College.
