RENAHAN NETS TWO GOALS AS KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER DOWNS PENN STATE BERKS 3-0
WILKES-BARRE -- Angelina Renahan scored a pair of goals to lead the King's College women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Penn State Berks in a game played in a steady rain Tuesday night at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win, King's improved to 1-2 on the year while Penn State Berks slipped to 0-2.
Renahan scored a bizarre opening goal at 27:44 when she challenged Berks keeper Savannah Cramer on a 50-50 ball inside the box. Cramer attempted to clear the ball from the Lions' end of the field but kicked the ball directly into Renahan. The ball then caromed backward 15 yards into Berks' own net to put the Lady Monarchs on top 1-0.
Renahan gave King's a 2-0 lead at 48:09 after scoring on a long, 35-yard break-away run down the middle of the field.
The lead grew to 3-0 at 52:06 when Brianne Schmidt struck net following a pass by Samantha Beadle.
Berks had its best chance of scoring at 85:48 when Sam Raimondo was awarded a penalty kick. King's goalie Lauren Duguid, however, was up to the task and made the save to keep the Lions off the scoreboard.
King's held a 6-4 advantage in shots while neither team attempted a corner kick.
Duguid made three saves in the contest while Cramer also had three stops for Berks.
King's returns to action Thursday with a 4:00 p.m. game at Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit.
