King's Football Falls to Defending MAC Champion Delaware Valley

KING'S FOOTBALL FALLS TO DEFENDING MAC CHAMPION DEL-VAL

WILKES-BARRE -- Kyle Schuberth rushed for 86 yards with three touchdowns and the Delaware Valley College defense pitched a shutout as the four-time defending Middle Atlantic Conference champion Aggies posted a 38-0 victory over host King's College Saturday at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win, Delaware Valley won its fourth straight game while improving to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the MAC. King's, meanwhile saw its ledger slip to 1-5 and 1-4 in conference play.

Delaware Valley reached the scoreboard on its opening possession with a 13-play, 62-yard drive that culminated with a 30-yard field goal by Brandon Snyder with 9:41 remaining in the opening quarter. Two possessions later, the Aggies used an 11-play, 66-yard drive to score on an 11-yard run by Schuberth
to build a 10-0 lead with 3:33 left in the first period.

On King's next possession, the Monarchs drove to the Aggie 35-yard line. Faced with a fourth-and-10 play. quarterback Tyler Hartranft
was sacked for a seven-yard loss, turning possession over to Delaware Valley.

The Aggies worked the ball downfield, using six play to advance to the King's six. From there, Schuberth
scored his second touchdown of the game with 12:03 remaining in the second quarter to give Delaware Valley a 17-0 advantage.

Later in the quarter the Monarchs pinned the Aggies deep in their own territory and assumed possession at the Delaware Valley 35 following a punt. King's reached the 11-yard line following a 24-yard run by Kyle McGrath, but on the next play Judens
Goimbert fumbled and the Aggies recovered to thwart the scoring chance.

After another Delaware Valley punt the Monarchs regained possesion
at their own 39 and drove to the Aggie 38. There the Aggie defense again held firm. Two incomplete passes and a four-yard run by McGrath forced a fourth-and-six play from the Delaware Valley 34. The drive ended when a Hartranft pass to Dan Kempa fell incomplete as the Aggies took over on downs.

King's defense forced another punt and the Monarchsassumed possession at their own 46 with 0:19 left in the half. A seven-yard run by Hartranft
and an 18-yard completion to McGrath moved the ball to the Aggie 29 with 0:03 on the clock. But on the final play of the half Hartranft's pass to Goimbert fell incomplete at the Aggie five-yard love as Delaware Valley too a 17-0 lead at the break.

On the first possession of the third-quarter the Monarchs were unable to move the ball and were forced to punt. The Aggie defense came up big again when Shawn Miller blocked Kevin Mulvihill's
punt and Delaware Valley took over at the King's 29. The Aggies used seven plays to reach the end zone when Schuberth scored his second touchdown of the game to push the score to 24-0.

After a King's punt the Aggies extended the lead with a 13-play, 56-yard drive, capped by a six-yard run by quarterback Aaron Wilmer to push the score to 31-0 at the end of the third quarter.

Three possessions later King's used a 64-yard pass from Hartranft
to Josh Sanders to give King's a first-down at the Aggie 21. Facing a fourth-and-three play from the Delaware Valley 14, Hartranft found Sanders for a seven yard completion and an apparent first down but Sanders was stripped of the ball by Aggie defender Bernard Avery and recovered by teammate Ken Kenner-English to thwart yet another King's scoring chance.

The Aggies took advantage and mounted an 89-yard drive to put the game away when Wilmer found Danny Fierro
for a 22-yard scoring strike with 5:10 left in the contest.

King's had one final scoring chance when the Monarchs took over following the kickoff at its own 35 and used a 35-yard run by McGrath to reach the Aggie 20. King's would follow up with a 13-yard pass to McGrath to secure a first-down at the Delaware Valley seven. But a rushing loss of five yards and two incomplete passes forced the Monarchs into a fourth-and-12 play. There, Hartranft's
pass to Adam Kudlacik was incomplete and the Aggies took over on downs with 2:18 left in the contest.

Delaware Valley would proceed to run out the clock as the Aggies walked away with the victory.

The Aggies outgained King's 432-to-260 in total yards in the game. Delaware Valley rushed for 241 rushing yards on 50 carries while the Monarchs posted 96 rushing yards on 26 attempts. Wilmer completed 18-of-29 passes for 191 yards and one score while Chris Ruiz caught five passes for 67 yards. Dashown
Waller and Alquann Jones chipped in with 63 an 58 rushing yards respectively.

The Aggies had 23 first downs compared to 13 for the Monarchs and ran 79 offensive plays compared to 59 for King's. Delaware Valley had 34:01 possession time compared to 25:59 for King's.


For King's, McGrath had 103 yards on 19 carries and caught three passes for 39 yards. Sanders caught four passes for 84 yards to aid the Monarch offense.

Defensively for King's the Monarchs were paced by Ryan Cordingly
who made 12 tackles in his first time playing since suffering a week-one injury. Evan Crisman, Jake Ksiaziewicz and Kris Matthews had nine tackles eac.

The Monarchs hope to get back on the winning track when King's travels to Albright on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. MAC matchup at Shirk Stadium.
