KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO FDU-FLORHAM, 2-1
WILKES-BARRE -- The visiting FDU-Florham women's soccer team broke open a scoreless game with two early second-half goals and held off a King's College rally to post a 2-1 victory Saturday night at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win, FDU improved to 5-10 overall and 2-2 in the Freedom Conference while King's slipped to 3-9-1 and 1-3 in league play. It marked the sixth time this season the Lady Monarchs lost by one goal.
After a scoreless first half FDU took a 1-0 lead when Claire Donohue scored on a free kick from 30 yards just 1:56 into the second half. The lead grew to 2-0 when Nicole Kauffman scored unassisted at the 52:35 mark on a shot just under cross bar from 20 yards out
King's cut the lead to 2-1 when Taylor Sweeney struck net off just 1:11 later an assist by Ivy Nulton at 53:46 high shot from left wing. The Lady Monarchs had several opportunities over the remainder of the game but were unable to convert as FDU held on for the victory.
FDU held an 8-5 advantage in shots and 3-2 in corner kicks. King's goalie Lauren Duguid made one save on the night.
King's returns to action Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at Eastern University in St. Davids.
