King's Men's Soccer Rallies Past Eastern and Clinches Freedom Conference Postseason Bid

KING'S MEN'S SOCCER RALLIES PAST EASTERN, 2-1

ST. DAVIDS -- The King's College men's soccer team overcame a 1-0 half-time deficit with two second half goals over at six minute span as the Monarchs rallied for a critical 2-1 Freedom Conference road win over host Eastern University Wednesday in St. Davids.

With the win, King's improved to 10-3-1 overall and 4-1 in Freedom play in earning its first victory over the Eagles since the 2009 campaign.  The victory also clinched a Freedom Conference playoff spot. Eastern, meanwhile, slipped to 7-4-1 and 2-3 in league competition.

Eastern built a 1-0 lead 10:51 into the game when Brandon Beaumont scored unassisted for the Eagles.

The score remained the same for the next 60 minutes until King's tied the score when Niall Croke buried a free kick into the lower right corner of the net at the 71:55 mark.

The Monarchs would then push across what proved to be the game winner just 5:31 later when Chris Nygren knocked in a loose ball during a scramble in front of the Eastern goal, giving the Monarchs a 2-1 lead at the 77:26 mark.

Eastern outshot King's 15-9 for the game and both teams attempted five corner kicks. Monarch goalie Mark Labbadia posted nine saves for the Monarchs while Eastern keeper Kyle Nichols had four saves.


King's wlll return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Misericordia University in Dallas.
