MONARCH LACROSSE POSTS BIG 2-1 FREEDOM CONFERENCE WIN OVER DESALES
CENTER VALLEY -- The King's College men's soccer team picked up its biggest victory of the season Saturday when the Monarchs traveled to Center Valley to post an important 2-1 Freedom Conference victory over DeSales University.
With the win, King's improved to 7-3-1 overall and 1-1 in Freedom Conference play. DeSales, meanwhile, slipped to 7-4-2 and 1-1 in league competition.
The win was an impressive one for the Monarchs as DeSales has qualified for the NCAA Division III national tournament each of the past two seasons. The Monarchs have now won its last two matches with DeSales, including a 4-3 triumph last season.
King's opened the scoring at the 35:59 mark when Kevin Buchanan struck net off an assist by Nick Armenti as the Monarchs took a 1-0 lead at the halftime break.
In the second stanza, the lead grew to 2-0 when David Stroh scored on an indirect kick that deflected into the net at 56:26 as Chris Nygren and Niall Croke were awarded double-assists. DeSales cut the lead to 2-1 when Padraic Farrell found the back of the net off an assist from Matt Metzler.
But the Monarch defense would keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard the rest of the way to hold on to the vitory.
DeSales outshot King's 20-11 in the game while also owning a 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Monarch goalie Mark Labbadia posted eight saves while Bulldog goalie Colin Sulpicio tallied three stop
King's will next host Delaware Valley College Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
