KING'S FIELD HOCKEY ADVANCES TO FREEDOM CONFERENCE

WILKES-BARRE -- Jackie Sikora sparked a three-goal surge in the second half with a goal and assist as the King's College field hockey team broke up a 1-1 tie to post a 4-1 victory over visiting Delaware Valley College in the Freedom Conference Tournament semi-finals Friday at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win, top-seeded King's improved to 13-6 on the year while fourth-seeded Delaware Valley saw it's season come to an end with a 7-12 mark.

King's now moves on to the Freedom Conference title game Sunday at a time to be announced. The Lady Monarchs will host three-time defending champion Eastern University, the tournament's second seed, which reached the final with a 7-5 victory over third seeded FDU-Florham.

King's took a 1-0 lead when Megan Mundy scored off a pass from Stephanie Wingerter with 11:11 left in the first half, allowing the Lady Monarchs to enter the half-time break with a one-goal advantage.

Delaware Valley came out of the locker room and quickly tied the score at 1-1 when Kelsey Zook converted a penalty stroke just 1:55 into second half.

From there, Jackie Sikora ignited a three-goal King's surge over a 12 minute span. Sikora would score off a Calli Berryman assist to give the Lady Monarchs a 2-1 lead with 30:48 left in the contest. The score grew to 3-1 when Berryman made on a Sikora pass with 19:20 remaining.

The Lady Monarchs scored the final goal of the game just 1:17 later when Alyssa Monaghan converted a pass from Meghan Wernimont with 18:03 on the clock as King's walked away with the victory.

King's finished the game with a 14-7 advantage in shots while holding a 14-3 lead in penalty corners. Lady Monarch goalie Megan Withrow made four saves while Aggie keeper Sandra Edwards made five saves while teammate Sara Culver posted a pair of defensive saves.
