KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER POSTS 1-0 VICTORY OVER PENN STATE BERKS

READING -- Freshman Erin Laird scored the lone goal of the game as the King's College women's soccer team won its first game of the season with a 1-0 triumph over host Penn State Berks Wednesday in Reading.

The goal came 16:12 into the game when Shaina Dougherty lofted a long midfield pass to Laird, who beat the Lion defense to score on a breakaway goal. The Lady Monarch defense did the rest, limiting Berks to seven total shots and just two shots on goal.

King's (1-1) held a 12-7 advantage in shots while owning a 2-1 lead in corner kicks.

King's starting goalie Lauren Duguid played the first half and did not have to make a single save. Erin Dempsey played the second half and made two stops. Savannah Cramer made nine saves for Berks (0-2).


The Lady Monarchs return action Saturday with a 7:00 p.m. home matchup against Mount Saint Mary's (NY) College at McCarthy Stadium in the Betzler Athletic Complex.
