King's Women's Soccer Falls to Defending Titlist Misericordia

KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO 12th RANKED MISERICORDIA

WILKES-BARRE -- Megan Mahoney and Megan Lannigan scored two goals each to power the 12th ranked Misericordia University women's soccer team to a 6-0 victory over host King's College Tuesday night a McCarthy Stadium.

With the win Misericordia improved to 11-2-1 overall and 3-0 in the Freedom Conference while King's slipped to 6-6-1 and 1-2 in league play.

The Cougars took a 1-0 lead at 20:36 on an unassisted goal by Kylen Smith. The score grew to 2-0 at 23:18 when Megan Lannigan scored off an assist by Erin McGreal.  Misericordia would take a 3-0 lead at the half when Megan Mahoney struck net off a feed in the box from Meghan Antrim.

In the second half the Cougars got on the board quickly as Lannigan scored on a pass from Antrim just 0:46 into the second stanza to push the score to 4-0. Misericordia used an unassisted goal by Mahoney at 66:26 and a final score from Lindsay Hoover off an assist by Karen Spehalski with 1:30 left in the contest.

Misericordia outshot King's 19-2 and held a 13-1 advantage in corner kicks.

King's goalies Jessica Natale and Lauren Duguid played one apiece with each allowing three goals. Both keepers made three saves each. Cougar goalies Maureen Cicciosanti and Kelly Mott combined for one save.

King's will next host Manhattanville Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
