King's Men's Soccer Blanked by Eastern
Wilkes-Barre, Pa. -- The King's College men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to visiting Eastern in Freedom Conference play Saturday night at McCarthy Stadium.
The Eagles improved to 12-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 in Freedom play grabbing the conference's top spot with one game to play. King's now stands at 8-4-4 overall and 3-2-1 in league play good for the fourth best mark in the conference.
Eastern jumped out early getting a goal from Eric Giovagnoli on a penalty kick in the 12th minute. The Eagles struck again just over a minute later on an unassisted tally by Brandon Beaumont.
Giovagnoli iced the game with his second goal in the 70th minute when he stole the blocked a clear attempt by King's keeper
Mark Labbadia and deposited the ball into the empty net.
The Monarchs were out shot 8-4 and the Eagles held an 11-3 edge in penalty corners.
Labbadia took the loss in net for King's making four saves. Joe Centeno started the game in net and picked up the win.
The Monarchs step out of league action on Wednesday when they host Penn State-Altoona at 7:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
