GETTYSBURG -- King's College sophomore Shane Stark earned a trip to the NCAA Division III National Tournament by placing third at 184-pounds at the East Regional Championships Saturday at Gettysburg College.

Stark (16-4) was one of two Monarchs to place in the event, being joined by junior Tommy Desir
who was sixth at 165 pounds. With Stark's qualification, it will mark the 13th straight year the Monarchs have had at least one grappler reach the Division III National Championships.

In his first match Stark posted a 13-6 decision over Mark Gerrity
of Stevens before reaching the semi-finals with a 5-2 decision over fifth-seeded Kyle Spangler of Johns Hopkins. In the semi-finals Stark fell to top-seeded eventual champion Brian Broderick of The College of New Jersey 10-3 to fall into the consolation bracket.

Stark then posted a 3-1 victory over sixth-seeded Eric Bach of Wilkes to reach the consolations finals. There he faced a rematch
with Spangler and garnered a 6-2 decision to place third and earn a trip to Cedar Rapids, IA for the national event March 10-11.
Tommy Desir
At 165-pounds, King's fifth-seeded Desir won his first match with a 17-1 technical fall over Dan Matrazzo of Mt. St. Vincent. He was then pinned in 6:26 by fourth-seeded and nationally-ranked Owen Vernon of Centenary. In the consolations, Desir posted a 13-1 major decision over William Reick of Washington & Lee, before reaching the consolation semi-finals with a 7-3 decision over Nick Della Ferra of Delaware Valley.

Desir

Two of King's top wrestlers entered the event battling injuries which ultimate resulted in the end of their respective seasons.

Senior heavyweight Peter Dwyer was seeded third in the tournament but came
into the tournament with a knee injury. Unfortunately for Dwyer, he reinjured his knee in the opening round and was forced to default to unseeded Anthony Chu of New York University. Dwyer then saw his collegiate career come to an end when he was forced to withdraw from the tournament

At 149, King's fourth-seeded Chris Mazzocchi
made his first appearance on the mats since missing the past month with a leg injury. The rust showed as Mazzocchi lost his first match 8-3 to Mike Shaughnessy of The College of New Jersey. In the consolation bracket, Mazzocchi was then reinjureed and was forced to default to Muhlenberg's Matt Parker.

In the 141-pound class, King's sixth-seeded Demarquis Holley won his first match with a 12-2 major decision over Matt Watson of the Merchant Marine Academy. In the quarterfinals Holley was pinned in 4:06 by third-seeded Dale Fava of Delaware Valley. In the consolations, Holley won his first match with a 23-7 technical fall against Brian Lathan of Mt. St. Vincent, but was then eliminated in next bout by a heartbreaking 8-7 decision to second-seeded Jeff Peterson of Wilkes. He finished his rookie season with a 16-8 record.

After Seals picked up a forfeit win in the first-round of consolations, he fell 6-4 to Gabriel Gleason of New York University and was eliminated. Seals wrapped up his sophomore year with a 4-10 record.

At 174, King's unseeded Anthony Clifford lost his opening match 10-0 to fifth-seeded Dallas Winston of Delaware Valley. He was then eliminated in his first
