KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER GOT OVERTIME TO DOWN SUSQUEHANNA

SELINSGROVE -- Freshman Alexandra Garrett scored the game-winning goal 5:58 into the first overtime period as the King's College women's soccer team won a season-opening 2-1 victory over host Susquehanna University Saturday night in Selinsgrove.

The win marked the first time since the 2008 campaign that the Lady Monarchs won their season debut.

After a scoreless first half King's took a 1-0 lead when the Lady Monarchs Sarah Borajkiewicz played a corner kick into the box and the ball worked its way into the net at the 63:49 mark.
Shaina Dougherty was originally credited with the goal but the score was changed to an "own goal" after the game.  The Lady Monarchs were poised for a regulation win, but Susquehanna tied the score with just 1:23 remaining on an unassisted goal by Marissa DeParto.

King's, however, shook off the disappointment and walked away with the victory when Garrett scored her first collegiate goal to put an end to the contest.

Susquehanna held a slim 14-12 advantage in shots while the Lady Monarchs owned a 4-2 lead in corner kicks. Lauren Duguid made eight saves in goal for King's while Crusader keeper Rachel Norbuts tallied three stops.

The Lady Monarchs make their home debut Wednesday when they host Penn State Berks at 7:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium in the Betzler Athletic Complex.
