KING'S VOLLEYBALL WINS HOME DEBUT WITH 3-0 VICTORY OVER PSU-HAZLETON

WILKES-BARRE — The King's College women's volleyball team remained unbeaten as the Lady Monarchs won its 2013 home debut with a 3-0 triumph over Penn State Hazleton Tuesday night in Scandlon Gymnasium.

King's won by scores of 25-16, 25-13, 25-18 to improve to 5-0 in head coach Bernie Kachinko's return to Scandlon Gymnasium for the first time since the 2009 campaign. PSU-Hazleton, meanwhile, fell to 0-1 after dropping its season opener.

The Lady Monarchs were paced by junior Emily Heimbecker who posted 12 kills and hit .417 while adding five digs and one ace. Junior Mary Loughran distributed 28 assists with three aces and four digs. Freshman Jessica Carr added six kills and one solo block while sophomore Aubrey Gryzkiewicz added four kills and seven digs. Sophomore Alexa Nelson and senior Katie Senunas registered four kills apiece.

Eboni Chase tallied nine digs while Elen O'Donnell chipped in with five digs. Freshman Sarah Busse round out the Lady Monarchs with four assists, five digs, and one ace.  Kachinko played all 16 team members on the Lady Monarch roster.

Kachinko, who had piloted the Lady Monarchs for 21 year before retiring following the 2009 season, returned to the program in January and was coaching his first match at Scandlon Gym since October 30, 2009.

King's returns home Wednesday when the Lady Monachs host William Paterson University at 7:00 p.m. in Scandlon Gym.
