King's Swim Teams Split Tri-Meets with Arcadia and Messiah


Grantham, Pa. – The King's College men's and women's swim teams earned split a tri-meet with Arcadia and host Messiah Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Monarchs tallied a 105-97 victory over Arcadia and dropped a 133-69 decision to Messiah.

Macawley Brown earned a first place finish in the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 1:01.93. Patricia Manning netted a pair of second place finishes with a time of 5:03.83 in the 400 yard individual medley and a 1:14.74 time in the 100 yard breaststroke.

Marybeth Rudy finished just behind Manning in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:16.77 good for third. Caroline Fitch tallied a pair of third place finishes with a 5:54.24 in the 500 freestyle and an 11:56.43 in the 1000 free. Bridgid Wynn posted a 2:09.55 in the 200 free to also grab a third place finish.

King's women's relay teams scored a pair of second place finishes. In the 200 medley the King's quartet of Wynn, Brown, Rachel Jonas and Erin McLin tallied a 2:00.43. McLin, Jonas, Katie Fitch and Manning posted a 4:05.98 in the 400 freestyle relay. 

On the men's side King's defeated Arcadia 111-58 and fell to host Messiah 127-62.

James McLaughlin led the way for the Monarchs with two second place finishes. In the 1000 freestyle McLaughlin tallied a time of 11:07.58 while he posted a 1:02 in the 100 backstroke. Michael Sweeney had a pair of strong swims taking second place in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:53.40 and then posting a time of 5:19.85 good for third place in the 500 freestyle.

In the 100 freestyle Josh Shoemaker earned second place in a time of 52.35 and also picked up a third place finish in the 50 free in a time of 24.07. Kyle Newton also swam a 57.52 in the 100 butterfly good for second place.

The Monarch relay squad of Sweeney, Shoemaker, Andrew Reimann and Newton posted a 3:33.35 to win the 400 free relay. King's earned a second place finish in the 200 medley relay with McLaughlin, Matt Dickson, Lucas Crock and Justin Weilert posting a time of 1:51.11.

Both swim teams are back in action next Saturday when they host Albright at 1:00 p.m. at Scandlon Pool.
