KING'S WRESTLERS CROWN TWO CHAMPIONS AT ST. VINCENT TOURNEY

NEW YORK, NY -- The King's College wrestling crowned two individual champions and had two second-place finishers as the Monarchs had its best performance of the season at the Mount St. Vincent Invitational Tournament Saturday in New York City. There was no team scoring in the event.
Winning titles for King's were undefeated senior
Tommy Desir at 165-pounds along with 2013 national tournament qualifier
Shane Stark, a junior at 184. Finishing second were
Chris Mazzocchi at 149 and
Jamie Scarantino at 125.
The top-seeded Desir, ranked seventh nationally, improved to 17-0 after winning the 165-pound title. The senior opened with a 9-6 decision over Brandon Conrad of Rhode Island before pinning Anthony Dawson of Gloucester County College in 1:10. In the semi-final he earned a 11-9 semi-final victory over C.J. Caserta of Stevens Tech before being awarded a medical forfeit in the finals.
Stark also won four matches to claim his first tournament crown of the season. In his first match Stark pinned Curtis Hewitt of Middlesex County College in 6:04 before recording another fall over Todd Batten of Gloucester in 5:39. In the semi-finals Stark won a 5-4 decision before pinning Shawn Kavanaugh of Bridgewater in in the finals in 3:15.
At 125-pounds,
Jamie Scarantino won his first match with a 9-3 decision over Hector Reynoso of Springfield Tech before tallying a 18-1 semi-final technical fall over Yuan Wayne of NYU. In the finals, Scarantino dropped a 12-7 decision to top-seeded Jon Murray of Rhode Island College.
In the 149-pounds class, Mazzocchi won his first match with a pin in 2:31 over Steve Orlic of Bergen, then pulled out a 1-0 semi-final triumph over Joe Slane of Rhode Island. In the finals he dropped a 4-0 decision to top-seeded Daniel Pak of Gloucester County College.
At 157,
Keith Wanamaker placed fifth, going 3-2 on the day.
The Monarchs will next compete in the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships Saturday at Messiah College in Grantham.
