King's Men's and Women's Basketball Host Crosstown Rival Wilkes on Wednesday

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. -- The King's College men's and women's basketball teams square off with crosstown rival Wilkes in a doubleheader Wednesday night at Scandlon Gymnasium. The women's game tips off at 6:00 p.m. while the men's game follows at 8:00 p.m.

King's women enter this Freedom Conference tilt with a 4-11 overall mark and an 0-4 record in league play after falling 65-50 to Eastern on Saurday. The Lady Monarchs are allowing 73.5 points per game while tallying 62.8 points per contest. King's has had balance on offense with three different players averaging double-figure points. Junior Marissa Manning paces the King's offense with 14.4 points per game to go with 7.5 rebounds and 13 blocks on the season. Kayla Feairheller adds 12.3 points and posts 5.4 rebounds per game.

Sophomore Jennifer Fabian tallies 10.0 points per game while leading the team with 8.7 rebounds per contest and 39 blocks on the year.  Kasey Seitz triggers the offense with 4.3 assists per outing to go with 5.6 points.

The Lady Colonels stand at 3-11 overall and 0-4 in the Freedom Conference. Last time out the Colonels earned a come from behind for a 53-51 win over Penn State Hazleton. Wilkes is averaging 56.4 points per game while giving up 62.2. Elena Stambone leads the Colonel offense with 19.9 points per game to go with 4.1 board. Chelsea Brown adds 12.0 points and a team-leading 9.5 rebounds per contest. Ginny Edwards has tallied 4.4 points and 7.3 rebounds per game while Ellen Rich scores 4.6 points per game while garbbing 6.6 boards per contest.

King's men leveled their Freedom Conference record at 2-2 and improved to 9-6 overall with a 74-61 victory over Eastern on Saturday. The King's offense produces 77.9 points per game while on the defensive end the Monarchs are allowing just 70.1. Senior guard Kyle Hammonds leads King's in scoring with 19.7 points per game to go with 4.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists per contest. Fellow senior Joe Caffrey chips in 13.8 points, 4.9 boards and a team-leading 3.5 assists per contest. Caffrey ranks third in D-III with a 4.08 assist to turnover ratio.

Freshman Dan Rutecki tallies 9.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Tom Heston is the Monarchs top rebounder with 5.2 boards while scoring 6.5 points. Tim O'Shea also averages 6.5 points per game.

Wilkes stands at 6-8 overall and 1-3 in the Freedom Conference after dropping a 67-62 decision at Manhattanville on Saturday. The Colonel offense scores 70.1 points per game while allowing 69.5. Wilkes has a balance attack led by 13.7 points from Pat Furst. He also grabs a team-leading 6.1 rebounds per game. Alec Wizar adds 13.6 points per game connecting 36.2 % of his 3-point baskets. Steve Stravinski chips in 9.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while Nic Wilkins adds 9.1 points and 5.9 boards per contest.

Wilkins younger brother Derek is a freshman power forward at King's and averages 3.4 and 2.7 rebounds. Both inside players, the brothers could very well square off against one another in the game.
