KING'S FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO MISERI 1-0 IN DOUBLE-OVERTIME

WILKES-BARRE -- Emily Hegner scored the lobe goal of the game with 8:45 left in the second overtime period as visiting the visiting Misericordia University field hockey team posted a 1-0 Freedom Conference victory over host King's College Wednesday night at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win Misericordia improved to 10-6 and 4-1 in league play. King's, meanwhile, slipped to 8-8 and 2-3.

In seven-on-seven overtime and the game scoreless in the second extra period, King's was victimized by a controversial call when Monarch defender Haley Waslasky was green-carded when the curved portion of her stick became briefly entangled with the curved end of the stick of a Misericordia player with the ball in King's defensive end of the field. Waslasky was sent off the field after being carded and King's was forced to continue one-player short.

The winning goal came just 1:15 later when Hegner lifted the ball over King's goalie Paige Tedik into the upper left corner of the net.

Misericordia outshot King's 22-2 and owned a 21-7 advantage in penalty corners. Tedik made 12 saves for KIng's while Cougar keeper Angela Pasquini made two saves for the Cougars.

King's will next travel to play crosstown rival Wilkes Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Ralston Complex.
