King's Women's Soccer Remains Alive with 2-0 Win Over FDU

KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER PICKS UP BIG WIN OVER FDU

WILKES-BARRE -- Alexandra Garret scored two goals and the King's College women's soccer team held off a late FDU-Florham rally as the Lady Monarchs remained alive in the Freedom Conference playoff hunt with a critical 2-1 victory over visiting FDU-Florham Wednesday at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win King's improved to 5-8-2 overall and 2-4 in the Freedom Conference. FDU, meanwhile, slipped to 6-9-2 and 2-4 in league play.  King's victory moves the Lady Monarchs into a four-way tie for the fourth and final playoff berth with the regular-season finale around the conference set for Saturday.


King's reached the scoreboard just 4:01 into the game when Garrett took a through-ball from Erin Laird at the 15-yard line and placed a shot into the upper left corner of the net

The Lady Monarchs took a 2-0 lead with 23:53 left in the contest when Garrett made a steal, beat a Devil defender and placed a shot into the net just inside the left post.

FDU found the back of the net with 13:10 o play when Kelly Roche scored off an assist by Brittni Calleo to trim the lead to 2-1.

FDU controlled field position the remainder of the game but was unable to push across the equalizer.

King's will close out the regular-season Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. matchup at Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY.

The Devils held a 11-8 advantage in shots. King's goalie Jessica Natale posted five saves while Devil keeper Annie George made three stops.
