DOYLESTOWN -- Brianna DiMaggio scored what proved to be the game winning goal at 11:24 of the first half and the King's College defense shut down host Delaware Valley in the second half as the visiting Lady Monarchs picked up an important 2-1 Freedom Conference road victory over host Delaware Valley College Friday in Doylestown.

With the win King's improved to 6-5 overall and 1-1 in Freedom Conference play. The Aggies, who finished the 2013 regular-season in first-place in the Freedom Conference, slipped to 5-7 and 0-2.

King's jumped out to a quick lead when Alyssa Monaghan knocked in a shot off her own rebounded miss just 5:16 into the game. DiMaggio made it a 2-0 game when she found the back of the net on an unassisted tally from the right side.  Delaware Valley cut the lead to 2-1 on a Stephanie Swider goal with 6:32 left in the opening stanza.

Neither team would score the rest of the way as the King's defense did an outstanding job in allowing just three Aggie shots in the second half.
Overall, King's held a 19-9 advantage in shots as well as a 10-8 lead in penalty corners. Paige Tedik made five saves while Aggie keeper Emily Aldridge had 12 stops.

King's returns to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. matchup at the University of Scranton.
