KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER TIES SUSQUEHANNA IN SEASON OPENER, 1-1 IN DOUBLE OT

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's soccer team opened the 2014 season settling for a 1-1 double-overtime tie with visiting Susquehanna University Saturday night at McCarthy Stadium.

King's took a 1-0 halftime lead when Kristen Jacob scored off an assist by Gabrielle Murphy with just 1:20 remaining in the opening stanza.

Susquehanna would send the game to overtime when Samantha Zuponcic converted a pass by Alex Edelman to tie the score at 1-1 with 12:00 minutes left in regulation.
 
The teams battled through two 10 minute periods but neither squad was able to score as the game ended in a deadlock.

Susquehanna outshot King's 12-8 and held an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Lady Monarch goalie Jessica Natale made seven saves, including four leaping stops to keep King's in the game.

King's returns to the field again on Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. matchup at Penn State Berks.
