KING'S MEN'S SOCCER EDGED BY MISERICORDIA, 1-0

WILKES-BARRE, PA --- David Malaquias scored off a header in the 31st minute to give the Misericordia University men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over King's College on Tuesday night at McCarthy Stadium.

The Cougars improve to 7-5-2 overall and 3-1-1 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom play while the Monarchs fall to 12-3-1 overall and 3-1-1 in MAC Freedom play.

King's began the game strong holding possession for much of the first 12 minutes and recording three shots. The Cougars responded by controlling possession for much of the next 18 minutes. The Cougars were able to score the only goal of the game when Malaquias headed in a goal off a throw-in by Evan Brown in the 31st minute.

The Monarchs and Cougars played pretty much even for the last 59 minutes with each team having multiple chances to score but neither team was able to find the back of the net.

Misericordia outshot King's 13-8 and had an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks. Matt Smith made two saves in goal for the Cougars to receive the shutout win. Owen Geedey made five saves in goal for the Monarchs.

The loss drops the Monarchs into a second place tie in the MAC Freedom with Misericordia. King's next opponent, Eastern University tops the conference with 13 points while the Monarchs and Cougars have 10, one point ahead of fourth place FDU-Florham and four points ahead of fifth place Manhattanville. The Monarchs can clinch a MAC Freedom Tournament berth with a win in either one of their remaining two conference games.

The Monarchs will return to the field on Saturday when they host Eastern University in a rematch of last year's Conference Championship game. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
