KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO MISERICORDIA IN DOUBLE OT

WILKES-BARRE -- Alex Gallagher scored the game-winning goal with 2:28 left in the second ovetime period as nationally-ranked Misericordia held off a pesky King's College women's soccer team 2-1 in a Freedom Conference matchup Wednesday night at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win Misericordia, ranked 14th in NCAA Division III, improved to 13-2-1 overall and 5-0 in Freedom Conference play while King's slipped to 5-6-2 and 1-2-2 in league play.

With the teams nearing a tied final score, Misericordia took advantage of a King's turnover near midfield and Kylen Smith delivered a through-ball to Gallagher, who scored from 17 yards out from the right flank to the upper left corner to end the game.

Misericordia took a 1-0 lead with 30:35 left in the half. The Cougars capitalized on a King's mistake when King's goalie Jessica Natale's attempt to clear the ball went directly to Misericordia's Jeanna Orfanos who scored from 15 yards out.

King's eventually tied the game at 1-1 when Ivy Nulton collected a ball that caromed off a Misericordia defender and drilled in a shot from 16 yards out.

Neither team would score the rest of the way as the game entered overtime.

Misericordia led 20-4 in shots but King's defense contained the Cougars to just eight shots on-goal, few which were quality shots. Misericordia also owned a 7-0 advantage in penalty corners. Natale made six saves in the game for King's.

King's returns to the pitch on Saturday with a 5:00 p.m. home matchup against Eastern University at McCarthy Stadium.
