KING'S MEN'S SOCCER POSTS 2-0 WIN OVER ELMIRA
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College men's soccer team closed out its home regular-season slate Tuesday night with a 2-0 victory over visiting Elmira College in a non-conference matchup at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win King's, ranked 10th in the Mid-Atlantic Region, improved to 14-3-1 while Elmira slipped to 6-6-4.
King's missed a golden opportunity to take the lead in the first half when Raul Cruz was awarded a penalty kick with 15:19 remaining in the opening stanza. But Kevin Huggins made a diving stop of Cruz's offering inside the right post to keep the game at a scoreless tie at the break.
The Monarchs would quickly take the lead in the second half when Brendan Raab converted a pass from Daniel Lorandini with a shot inside the left post for a 1-0 Monarch lead just 1:46 into the second half.
King's would score the final goal of the game when the Monarchs took advantage of an Elmira turnover. Brian Fenster picked off an errant pass and beat Huggins one-on-one to score on a tap-in with 20:18 remaining
King's outshot Elmira 20-8 and held an 8-4 advantage in shot on goal. The Monarchs also led 8-1 in corner kicks.  King's goalie Owen Geedey made four saves in registering his sixth shutout of the season. Huggins finished with nine stops for the Soaring Eagles.

The Monarchs will close out their regular-season Friday with a 7:00 p.m. matchup at Delaware Valley College in Doylestown. A King's wins cinches the top-seed for the Monarchs in next week's Freedom Conference Tournament.
