KING'S MEN'S SOCCER WINS FREEDOM OPENER 2-0 OVER DESALES
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College men's soccer team officially began defense of its 2014 Freedom Conference championship on Sunday as the Monarchs posted a 2-0 victory over visiting DeSales University in the league opener for both teams at McCarthy Stadium.

With the won King's improved to 9-2 while DeSales slipped to 5-6.
King's broke open a scoreless game with 8:50 remaining in the first half when Kevin Hopkins entered a cross from the right wing to the the left post and Brian Fenster redirected the pass into the DeSales net.
The Monarchs added one more goal with 17:39 remaining when DeSales keeper Dan Sulpizio was unable to control a crossing pass and Hopkins knocked in the loose ball to set the final score. 

Hopkins finished the game with one goal and one assist for the Monarchs.
King's outshot DeSales 17-4 and held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. King's goalie Owen Geedey picked up the win in goal without needing to make a save. 
The Monarchs return to the pitch Thursday with a 4:00 p.m. road game at Summit University (formerly Baptist Bible College) in Clarks Summit.
