King's Men's Soccer Falls to Eastern in Freedom Title Game

KING'S MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO EASTERN IN FREEDOM TITLE GAME

WILKES-BARRE - Visiting Eastern University opened a 2-0 first half lead and the Eagle defense shut down the King's College offense as the Monarchs dropped a 2-0 decision in the championship game of the 2015 Freedom Conference Tournament Saturday night at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win, third-seeded Eastern improved to 16-2-2 and receives the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III National Tournament. King's, meanwhile, was unable to win a third straight Freedom title and fell to 16-4-1 with the loss.

Eastern pushed across the first goal with 21:54 left in the first half when Jacob Myers headed in a crossing pass off the right wing by Jadon Ramsing.

The score grew to 2-0 with 16:03 on the clock when an Eastern player was tackled in the box on the left wing and the Eagles were awarded a penalty kick.  Ramsing took the kick and directed the ball into the lower left corner of the net as eastern took a two-goal lead into the halftime break.

King's best scoring chance came two minutes into the second half when Erik Foster's shot from 20 yards out carom doff the crossbar. King's only other opportunity came with just under a minute left in the contest when Daniel Lorandini appeared to have a scoring chance from eight yards out but an Eastern defender made a sliding block of the shot at the last instant.

Eastern outshot King's 10-8 in the game but the Eagle defense held the Monarchs without a shot on goal. King's held a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks but were unable to capitalize.  Monarch goalie Owen Geedey made three saves while eastern keeper Quentin Keibler was not forced to make a save. Myers as named tournament most valuable player after the contest.

King's must now await word to see if it is selected for possible NCAA Division III national tournament at-large berth
