Men’s Soccer Earns 2-1 Road Win at Hartwick

ONEONTA, NY (September 5, 2026) -- The King's College men's soccer team earned its first victory of the 2026 season Saturday afternoon, defeating Hartwick College, 2-1, at Elmore Field as part of the Mayor's Cup. The Monarchs advance to 1-0-1 start , while the Hawks fall to 0-2 on the season. 

The Monarchs, who entered the contest with a 0-0-1 record, jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening half. Jackson Nuttall opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, finishing off a pass from Parker Gordon to give King's the early advantage.

King's doubled its lead in the 37th minute when Micah Tirado found the back of the net, giving the Monarchs a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.

Hartwick cut the deficit in half in the 65th minute, but the Monarchs' defense held strong over the final 25 minutes to preserve the 2-1 victory. Goalkeeper Ben Van Valkenburg made five saves, including a pair of key stops in the final 10 minutes, to help King's secure the win.

The Hawks held an 17-8 advantage in shots, but King's finished with a 4-6 disadvantage in shots on goal. The Monarchs earned four corner kicks compared to five for Hartwick.

With the victory, King's improves to 1-0-1 on the young season and will close out the Mayor's Cup on Sunday, September 6, against Oneonta at 3:00 p.m. at Red Dragon Field.
