KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER NOTCHES IMPORTANT ROAD WIN AT EASTERN

ST. DAVIDS, PA --- The King's College women's soccer team scored two goals in the first eight minutes of the game to defeat host Eastern University on Saturday afternoon at Olson Field in St. Davids.

The Monarchs kept their postseason hopes alive with their third straight win while eliminating the Eagles from contention for the second straight year. King's improves to 6-8 overall and 3-3 in conference play while Eastern drops to 7-10 overall and 2-4 in the MAC Freedom. The Monarchs need to beat FDU-Florham in their final conference game next Saturday at McCarthy Stadium to clinch a spot in the MAC Freedom Tournament for the fourth consecutive year.

Kristen Ryan gave the Monarchs an early lead when she scored her third goal of the year off a short pass in the box from Allison Andrew just 2:07 into the game. Five minutes later Ryan sent a long pass up the middle of the field that found Danielle Putnam for a breakaway goal giving King's a 2-0 lead less than at the 7:19 mark. The Eagles were able to cut the lead to 2-1 when Nicole Weenink scored an unassisted goal in the 52nd minute but the King's defense held strong and allowed just one shot that was blocked the rest of the game to pick up the important victory.

Kristen Ryan led King's with a goal and an assist. Danielle Putnam scored a goal while Allison Andrew recorded an assist. Jess Schenfeld made two saves in goal to pick up the win.

Eastern outshot the Monarchs 8-6 but had only three shots on goal compared to King's five.

The Monarchs will return to the pitch on Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. home matchup with Alfred University at McCarthy Stadium in their last non-conference game of the year.
