KING'S SWIMMERS DOWN WILKES IN DUAL MEET FINALE
WILKES-BARRE — The King's College swim teams prepped for the February 9 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships by sweeping cross-town rival Wilkes University in the Monarchs' final dual meet of the season. King's women were victorious by a 123-55 count while the men won by a 117-59 score.
With the win, King's women ended the regular-season with a 6-6 record while the men concluded a fine 7-4 ledger.
Kirsten Siwy won the 200-individual medley with a time of 2:16.01, tying the school-record originally set by Patricia Manning in 2013. She also captured the 500-freestyle at 5:29.99.
Katie Fitch won the 100-freestyle with time of 11:39.51 while
Amanda Schwerdtman was victorious in the 200-freestyle at 2:08.74.
Melina Good captured the 50-freestyle with a 26.86 while
Lauren Pham was a winner in the 100-butterfly at 1:05.67.
Mikayla Miller touched first in the 100-freestyle with a 58.09 while Meghan Whitt won the 100-backstroke with a time of 1:06.21. King's 200-medley relay team of Whitt, Siwy,
Hannah Oney, and Good were winners with a time of 1:59.11
King's also had several second-place individual finishers, including
Kailie Karensky in the 200-freestyle (2:09.11); Miller in the 50-freestyle (27.02);
Brigid Wynn in the 200-individual medley (2:26.36) and in the 100-freestyle (59.68); Schwerdtman in the 100-butterfly (1:08.36); and Jacqueline Molnar in the 100-backstroke (1:10.57); Fitch in the 500-freestyle (5:44.39);
John Kwasizur was victorious in the 100-backstroke with a 1:03.18 and also in the 500-freestyle at 5:49.84.
Aaron Griffith captured the 1000-freestyle with a time of 10:39.21 while Randill DeAsis won the 200-freestyle at 1:53.66.
Rhyce Hammaker touched first in the 50-freestyle with a 22.62 while
Bryce Groshardt was the winner in the 200-individual medley at 2:01.78.
Josh Shoemaker captured the 100-butterfly with a 55.75 while
Dan Weekes won the 100-freestyle at 49.81. The Monarchs' 200-medley relay team of Groshardt, Hammaker, Shoemaker, and Andy Heilman won with a time of 1:43.41.
The Monarchs also had a number of second-place finishers, including Griffith who was second in the 200-individual medley (58.03); Chris Dionne in the 100-freestyle (51.31),
Connor Murray in the 100-backstroke (1:04.84); and Chris Boucher in the 500-freestyle (6:03.42).
The MAC Championships are February 9-12 at the Graham Aquatic Center in York, Pa.
