KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER DOWNSÂ MANHATTANVILLE 2-0 IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE MATCHUP
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's soccer team scored once in each half as the Lady Monarchs posted an important 2-0 MAC Freedom Conference victory over visiting Manhattanville College Saturday night at McCarthy Stadium
With the win King's improved to 5-3-2 overall and 1-1 in league play. Manhattanville slipped to 3-5-1 and 0-2 in the conference.
King's took a 1-0 lead 11:54 into the match when Kristen Ryan bent a corner kick over the outstretched arms of Manhattanille goalie Bella Beltrami and into the upper corner of the net inside the far post. The Lady Monarchs took a 2-0 lead at 51:54 when Ryan delivered a corner kick into the box that a Manhattanville defender attempted to clear. The ball bounced straight into the air and Danielle Putnam headed the ball into the Valiant net just under the crossbar.

King's put on a solid defensive effort, outshooting Manhattanville 17-2, including a domination 10-0 advantage in shots on goal.  Lady Monarch freshman goalie Elizabeth Nolen (1-0-1) recorded the first victory of her her career with her second shutout performance. Nolen earned the win without needing to make a save thanks to the King's defense.Â
King's will return to the pitch Tuesday with a 4:30 PM matchup at rival Wilkes University.
