KING'S SWIMMERS SWEEP STEVENSON TO IMPROVE ON HOT EARLY SEASON STARTS

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College swimming teams continue to perform at a high level as evidenced by a sweep of visiting Stevenson University Saturday in Scandlon Gymnasium.
The women won by a score of 122-71 while the men captured a 105-25 decision. The King's men improved to 5-0 on the year and have gotten off to the best start since Matt Easterday took over as head coach in 2009-10. The Lady Monarchs are 4-1 and off to their top start under Easterday since opening 5-1 in 2015-16.
Pacing King's was
Kirsten Siwy won three events, including the 200-individual medley at 2:17.68; the 100-freestyle with a 57.00; and the 200-breaststroke at 2:33.31.
Amanda Schwerdtman was a two-time winner, capturing the 1000-freestyle with a time of 11:22.82, as well as the 500-freestyle at 5:35.71. Kaelyn Gardner was a winner in the 200-butterfly with a 2:24.75.
King's 400-freestyle relay team of
Melina Good, Abbi Strennen, Schwerdtman, and Alyssa Gesek were winners with a time of 3:59.11.
For the men,
Bryce Groshardt won the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:51.83 while Chris Michael was the winner in the 50-freestyle at 23.23.
Rhyce Hammaker touched first in the 200-individual medley with a 2:11.47 while
Dan Weekes was the victor in the 100-freestyle at 49.40. In addition, Jason Yerger won the 200-backstroke with a 2:07.83.
King's 400-medley relay team of Yerger, Hammaker, Chris Voucher, and Michael were winners with a time of 3:55.53.
King's returns to the pool Saturday and Sunday with the Diamond City Invitational at the Wyoming Valley CYC. Saturday's opening round is at 9:00 p.m. with the evening session at 5:00 p.m. Sunday's swimming begins at 10:00 a.m.
