(Gullo Earns All-Tournament Team Honors)


RUTLAND, VT -- The Tufts University men's hockey team broke open a one-goal game after two periods with five goals in the third to post a 9-3 victory over King's College in the consolation game of  the WSYB/Catamount Radio Invitational at Castleton State University in Rutland, Vt.

With the win Tufts improved to 1-3-1 while King's slipped to 0-8.

King's took a 2-0 lead for the first time this season as Tanner Wilding scored with 11:58 left in the first period. Nicholas Gullo the struck net with 6:14 off an assist by Luciano Bucci

The Jumbos cut the lead to 2-1 on a Blake McIntyre goal with 4:29 to play in the period before Mason Babbidge knotted the score at 2-2 with a goal at the 2:15 mark.

In the second period Tufts built a 4-2 lead on goals by Tom Tresca and Brian Brown, but King's cut the score to 4-3 when Isaac Cirinna scored a power play goal off of assists by Cameron Anklewich and Nicholas Gullo with 2:45 remaining in the second stanza.

In the third period Tufts scored twice quickly in the period as Hayden Smith scored 3:06 into the period and Charley Borek followed up just 1:50 later to give Tufts a 6-3 lead.

Neither team would score again until Smith pushed across his second goal of the period with 2:30 left in the contest.  But Tufts wasn't done as the Jumbos padded the score with a second goal from McIntyre with 1:06 on the clock and added another by Peter Hatton with just 0:35 left to play.

Tufts outshot King's 39-15 in the game. Jake Tugnutt made 26 saves in the contest. Gullo earned a spot on the all-tournament team for the Monarchs.

The Monarchs return to the ice Friday with a 7:00 PM home matchup against Nazareth College at Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.
