KING'S WRESTLERS PLACE TWO AT NED McGINLEY INVITATIONAL

WILKES-BARRE — The King's College wrestling team had two place-winners at the season-opening Ned McGinley Invitational Tournament Saturday in Scandlon Gymnasium.
Dakota Quick placed third at 125-pounds for the Monarchs. After a first-round bye, Quick registered a pair of pins over Anthony Fischetti of Oneonta and Spencer Reed of Wilkes. In the semi-finals he lost by technical fall to top-seeded eventual champion Nick Barbaria of Roger Williams. In the consolation bracket, Quick then pinned Kyle Trout of Wilkes before posting a 6-0 decision over Colby Bronzburg of Keystone. In the third-place match.
At 285, Bernardo dropped his first round match, but battled through the consolation bracket. Bernardo earned a 4-3 decision over Thomas Tabatneck of York, then posted a 5-1 decision over Adam Patsun of Roger Williams. He then tallied a 14-6 major decision over Scott Schaeffer of Muhlenberg to reach the consolation semi-finals. There he dropped a 3-1 decision to John Shorter of York and then fell to Jacob Lill of NYU in the fifth/sixth place match.
KIng's other top performer was freshman Jake Taylor at 141-pounds. Taylor won his first two matches with a 15-3 major decision over Ezra Neff of Wilkes, then pinned David Harris-Norto of York. In the quarterfinals he dropped a 6-1 decision to eventual champion Sean Lyons of NYU to fall into the consolation bracket. There he won an 8-5 decision over Ahken Chu of Oneonta before being eliminated by Matt Elias of Roger Williams.
As a team KIng's entered just 10 wrestlers due to injury and placed 11th as a team.
The Monarchs return to the mat Saturday with the New York City/Pennsylvania Duals at Wilkes University.
