MONARCH FIELD HOCKEY BLANKS IMMACULATA 2-0
IMMACULATA, PA --- The King's College field hockey team scored a goal in each half to record a 2-0 victory over Immaculata University at Draper Walsh Stadium in Immaculata on Saturday afternoon.
The Monarchs improve to 1-5 and record their first win of the year after a grueling schedule to begin the season. The Mighty Macs fall to 2-4.
Brianna DiMaggio had a chance to give the Monarchs the lead in the 10th minute but both of her back-to-back shots were saved by Randie Kuhar in goal. The Mighty Macs responded with an offensive burst of their own in the 17th and 18th minutes but
Kayla Nailor was able to keep two shots out of cage and the King's defense blocked a third. The Monarchs had a chance to take the lead in the 28th minute when
Anastasia Araviakis was awarded a penalty stroke but Kuhar was able to make the save to keep the game scoreless. In the 31st minute
Kelsey Gabriele scored her second goal of the season when she batted a feed from DiMaggio out of the air and knocked it into the back of the cage. DiMaggio had an opportunity to extend the lead with about 80 seconds left in the half but her shot was knocked away by Kuhar.
Immaculata came out strong to begin the second half with three shots on goal and two penalty corners in the first seven minutes but Nailor and the defense was able to keep the ball out of the cage. In the 44th minute DiMaggio gave the Monarchs an insurance goal when she one-timed a shot for her first goal of the year.
Selina Malacari set up DiMaggio for the goal off of a penalty corner. King's was able to keep the Mighty Macs without a shot on goal until the 67th minute when Nailor saved back-to-back shots to preserve her first career shutout.
Brianna DiMaggio led King's with a goal and an assist.

Selina Malacari recorded an assist.
Kayla Nailor made a career-high nine saves to pick up the victory in cage.
Immaculata held a slim 13-12 advantage in shots and a 10-7 advantage in penalty corners.
King's will look to build on the momentum of the win in their first conference game of the year with a 7:30 p.m. matchup with Manhattanville College on Friday night at McCarthy Stadium. King's defeated the Valiants 3-0 last season in the MAC Freedom Semifinal en route to winning the conference championship.
