Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Opens with Doubleheader against Misericordia

KING'S HOSTING MISERICORDIA MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SOCCER ON SATURDAY

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Opening Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom play in a doubleheader, the Lady Monarchs' and Monarchs' soccer teams face nearby rival Misericordia at McCarthy Stadium on Saturday night. The women's team is set to kickoff at 5 p.m. while the men are slated for a 7:30 p.m. start. Live video and stats will be available online for both games.  

Women's Soccer
The King's women (4-2-2) are coming off a 1-0 overtime victory over Moravian (6-2-1) on Sept. 27 for its third consecutive overtime game. Freshman Emma Baumbusch secured the win for King's off her game-winning goal in the final 3:38 minutes of the first overtime period. The goal was Baumbusch's career first.

Sophomore Danielle Putnam currently leads the Lady Monarchs with eight points and four goals, while junior Allison Andrew, senior Kristen Ryan and freshman Stephanie Corea have each scored two goals.

Misericordia (6-2-2) ranks No. 25 nationally and is coming off a 2-1 overtime win against Virginia Wesleyan. The Cougars won the MAC Freedom title in 2016 and reached the NCAA Tournament for the sixth consecutive time last season.

The King's women return to action on Oct. 7 when they face Manhattanville at 5 p.m.

Men's Soccer
The Monarchs (5-3-1) had a double-overtime tie with Alvernia (5-4-1) on Wednesday. Neither team scored in the contest, while junior Owen Geedey held steady in net for King's with seven saves.

Five different players have scored goals for King's this season, with freshman Liam McLoughlin leading the team with 10 goals.  

Misericordia (0-9) is looking for its first win of the season after falling to Lycoming 3-0 in its previous outing. The Cougars feature a young team with 13 freshmen and lost nine players to graduation last year.

The Monarchs are back at McCarthy Stadium next Wednesday, hosting Penn College at 7 p.m.
