LADY MONARCHS ICE HOCKEY DROPS 12-2 DECISION TO MANHATTANVILLE
PITTSTON, PA --- The Manhattanville College women's ice hockey team scored nine goals in the second period to record a 12-2 victory over King's College on Saturday afternoon at Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.
The Monarchs fell to 0-14-1 overall with a 0-8-1 mark in UCHC play and a 0-4-1 mark against MAC opponents. The Valiants improve to 8-7-1 overall, 5-2-0 in UCHC play and 3-0-0 in the MAC.
The Valiants opened up the scoring just 53 seconds into the game when Cassie Kent found the back of the net on the first shot of the game. King's evened the score five minutes later when
Mary Deyell stole the puck near the Monarch defensive blue line and passed it up to
Gracen Mahoney who beat the goalie on a breakaway while fighting off a Valiant defender on her back.
Manhattanville came out strong in the second period and scored a power play goal 1:46 into the period. They added another goal by Janet Xu about 45 seconds later to increase the lead to 3-1. King's responded 22 seconds later with Mahoney's second goal of the game to cut the advantage to 3-2. However, The Valiants responded with the next seven goals of the period to take a 10-2 lead into the third period.
The Valiants added two more goals in the third period to set the final score.
Gracen Mahoney led the Monarchs with two goals on four shots.
Mary Deyell and Josée Aitken recorded assists.
Emma Zeveney made 13 saves and allowed six goals in 30:29 minutes of action in goal.
Kiva Sierra Stoltz allowed four goals and made seven saves in 9:31 of relief.
Brittany Rose made 13 saves and allowed two goals in the third period. The Monarchs won 31 of 60 face-offs. Mahoney won 20 of her 34 face-offs while
Indra Wood won 10 of her 23 opportunities.
Manhattanville was led by Cassie Kent with three goals. Melissa Stys had two goals and two assists while Ali Howard and Kristi Peters had two goals and an assist each. Morgan Wilm added two goals. Rose Pijaca got the win in goal recording 10 saves.
King's and Manhattanville will face off once again on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. back at Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.
