KING'S WOMEN'S HOCKEY FALLS TOÂ MANHATTANVILLE, 8-2
PITTSTON -- The visiting Manhattanville College women's hockey team opened a 4-1 first period lead en route to an 8-2 victory over host King's College Sunday at Revolution Ice in Pittston.
With the win Manhattanville improved to 9-7-1 overall and 6-2 in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference. King's, meanwhile, slipped to 0-15-1 and 0-9-1.
Tianna Lopez opened the scoring for Manhattanville just 0:30 into the game, then added a second goal with 11:42 left in the opening period to make it a 2-0 contest. King's cut the lead to 2-1 when Josée Aitken found the back of the net off an assist from Morgan Almon with 15:05 remaining in the period.
But Melissa Stys and Kristi Peters scored with 3:18 and 1:22 left in the period as the Valiants took a 4-1 lead into the second period
Manhanville took a 5-1 lead when Maisey Kettlewood scored the lone goal of the second period with 9:08 left.
In the third period Sarah Sinning would score twice for the Valiants to push the lead to 7-1. King's then scored when Aitken tallied her second goal off a second assist from Almon with 8:05 to play. It was Aitken's second two-goal game of the season.
Cassie Kent closed out the scoring for Manhattanville on a goal with 4:05 left in the contest.
King's starting goalie Brittany Rose made 20 saves and allowed four goals in nearly 31 minutes before giving way to Anna Monsrud, who yielded three goals with 25 saves in 29 minutes of play.
King's returns to the ice Friday and Saturday, February 2-3, with a two-game series against Chatham University in Pittsburgh.
