KEUKA PARK, NY (October 10, 2018) -- Seniors
Rachel Zultevicz and
Kelsey Gabriele each tallied in the second half, lifting the King's College field hockey team to a 2-1 road win at Keuka College in the final non-conference game of the season.
After a slow first half that saw the two teams combine for just seven shots, things opened up in the second stanza. Senior
Kelley O'Keefe had two strong chances early after halftime, but her shots were saved. Minutes later, King's got on the board thanks to the third goal of the season by Zultevicz. The senior has now tallied in three of her last four games.
Less than four minutes later, the Monarchs doubled their lead as Gabriele potted her eighth of the season to make the score 2-0. Keuka (3-8) tried to get back into the contest, as Taylor Lessard finished a pass from Adele Fairbrother at 62:20 to trim the King's lead to one.
The Monarchs would hold Keuka without a shot the rest of the way, securing the win to snap a three-game losing skid. King's outshot its hosts on Wednesday 11-7, while holding an 8-5 lead in penalty corners as well. Sophomore keeper
Brianne Maluda earned the win while making one save, and Gabriele led the Monarchs in shots with three on goal.
King's finishes non-conference play with a 5-7 record, and is now 3-4 on the road after the victory. The Monarchs will travel to Manhattanville College Saturday at 6 p.m. in MAC Freedom action, the final conference game with the two schools as MC will join the Skyline College next year.
