Monarch Women’s Soccer Match Notes – Manhattanville

WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 12, 2018) – The King's College women's soccer team will look to rebound from a tough loss to Wilkes when they travel to Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY on Saturday for a 12 p.m. kickoff against the Valiants on GoValiants.com Field.

Last Time Out: The Monarchs scored first on a beautiful bomb by Kara Keim but Wilkes rallied with two second half goals including a late penalty kick with six minutes remaining to defeat King's 2-1 on Wednesday night. Tara Bender made a career-high 10 saves as the Colonels outshot the Monarchs 19-6.

The Valiants went on the road and fell to host DeSales 1-0 in overtime on a 94th minute goal. The Bulldogs outshot the Valiants 19-5 in the match. Alexa Pyatsky made seven saves in goal.
 
The Book On The Monarchs (4-7-0, 1-2-0 MAC Freedom):
  • King's is looking to end a three-match losing skid against the Valiants on Saturday. The Monarchs are 6-5 all-time against Manhattanville including winning the past five meetings. KC will be making their last conference trip to Purchase where they are 2-3 all-time. M'Ville will be leaving the MAC Freedom after this season for the Skyline Conference.
  • The Monarchs have played the second hardest schedule in the MAC Freedom and their opponent winning percentage of .613 is ranked 48th in the nation. The schedule gets a little easier the rest of the way as their future opponent winning percentage is just .311.
  • KC is entering an important stretch of matches where they need to pick up points in nearly every remaining conference match. The Monarchs are in a three-way tie for fifth in the conference standings with three points, one point behind Eastern and FDU-Florham. King's will face the two teams they are tied with next week as they travel for a midweek contest at DeSales and then host Delaware Valley on Saturday.
  • Freshman defender Kara Keim scored her team leading third goal of the year on Wednesday night. All three of her goals have been rockets from distance and ranks tied for sixth in the conference. Keim scored her first two goals in a week span to be named the MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week on September 24th.
  • Junior Danielle Putnam has recorded six points on two goals and two assists. Both of her goals were game-winning goals which is the second-most in the MAC Freedom.
  • Three sophomores are producing points on the offensive end this year for the Monarchs. Emily Harrington has scored two goals, including the game-winner against FDU-Florham, and has an assist. Emma Baumbusch and Stephanie Corea are tied for seventh in the conference with two assists each.
  • Junior forward Sophia Sacknievich have provided an offensive spark with two goals and an assist She scored both of her goals in the first two matches of the year and assisted on Keim's goal on against Wilkes.
  • Tara Bender has emerged as King's top keeper this season and was named the MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week two weeks ago. She has recorded a 2.04 goals against average and a .740 save percentage. The freshman is 4-6 in 839:05 minutes of action. Her 5.40 saves per match is fourth in the conference. Bender saved a season-high 10 shots on Wednesday against the Colonels.
The Book On The Valiants (2-9-0, 0-3-0 MAC Freedom):
  • Manhattanville is still looking for their first conference points of the year and are 2-9 overall. The Valiants took DeSales to overtime on Wednesday before dropping a 1-0 decision on a 94th minute goal.
  • The Valiants are 2-5 on GoValiants.com Field this season with both victories coming on a Saturday. MC dropped both of their home matches last week, 4-1 to Western Connecticut State and 2-1 to Delaware Valley.
  • Manhattanville is ranked last in the conference and 402nd in the nation with a .388 opponent winning percentage. The Valiants have struggled to score this year with seven goals in 11 matches. MC has been shut out seven times.
  • Graham Kennett is in his fifth season as head coach of the Valiants where he has amassed a 16-55-4 record.
  • Six of M'Ville's 11 matches have been decided by one goal. The Valiants lead the conference with 30 offsides. MC has been outscored 5-1 in conference matches this season.
  • Freshman Alexa Pyatsky has been M'Ville's primary keeper this season making 10 starts. She is fourth in the MAC Freedom with a 1.47 goals against average and fifth with a .808 save percentage. Her 6.30 saves per match is second in the conference.
  • Sophomore Ashley Pacheco leads the Valiant offense with two goals on 14 shots. Senior Joanna Karp has added three points on one goal and one assist.
  • Four different Valiants have scored a goal each this year. Senior Alex Gardner, junior Samira Davis, freshman Brigid Sullivan, and freshman Ashley Hayes have all found the back of the net.
Up Next: The Monarchs will have another road match on Tuesday as they make the trip down the turnpike to face DeSales University at 4 p.m. in Center Valley.
