CAMBRIDGE, Ma. (October 12, 2018) – On the first day of the MIT Quad Tournament, the Monarchs faced the host #21 Massachusetts Institute of Technology. King's College fell 3-0 for the first time in six straight games, bumping their record to 16-6 and advancing MIT to 18-2.
Rachel Miller tallied six kills and
Olivia Musto five while
Wiatt Hoffman grabbed 16 assists and
Taylor Mueller 11 digs. Freshman
Danielle Kitchner contributed two stops at the net. 25-15, 25-19 and 25-21 were the set scores.
King's hit their best percentage of all three sets to kick off the match, a .444 as Miller took the first kill. The points stayed close for the set, Hoffmann was able to notch a point assisted by
Karissa Hartzell before
Becca Goldberg was able to hit another. Musto was able to contribute a termination and Miller three more before a string of King's errors and two kills by the Engineers solidified the MIT set win.

The Monarch's started the second set strong seizing points right off the bat, a hard block from Kitchner and Miller was followed by an ace by Mueller that would soon be trailed by another, this time by Hoffmann. It was at 9-5 with King's up that MIT scored nine unanswered points. Musto came back with two kills as well as
Rachel Galante but it wouldn't be enough as the Engineers took another seven points. Despite a Kitchner-Musto block, Alexis Groark of MIT sank the final point and took set two.

It was a heated battle in the third set as MIT came in with the first six points of the game followed by a King's six. It was in this sequence Hoffmann would get two aces and Miller a kill. The Monarchs and the Engineers exchanged streaks of unrequited points and would continue through the set. This included three terminations by
Christie Brown and an ace by
Sarah Hayward. The set rounded out at 23-21 with MIT up, two kills by Hannah Grupe would finish the game.

The Monarch's continue the action tomorrow starting at 10:30 a.m. against Hunter College, then get ready to face Utica College at 1:00 p.m.
