King's Takes Home the Victory 3-2 Against Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (October 18, 2018) – The Monarchs took on Lycoming College tonight, defeating the Warriors in five sets on their home court. The 3-2 win went back and forth between teams with set scores of 23-25, 25-23, 25-22,18-25 and a superset of 16-14. The win comes after a conference loss to Misericordia University Tuesday night and pushes King's College to an 18-8 record and drops Lycoming to 13-16. Rachel Miller led the team in kills with 25 for the night followed by Becca Goldberg with 13 and Rachel Galante with 10. Karissa Hartzell accumulated a season-high of five aces as well as 22 digs and Wiatt Hoffman assisted 55 times.

Galante scored the initial point for King's in the first set out of the team's 13 total executions. Despite Lycoming's string of errors and cannons by Miller, Goldberg and Alyssa Robinson the Monarchs fell in a close set. King's hit a .195 percentage compared to Lycoming's .279 and only committed five errors on 41 total attempts.

The roles were reversed in the second with King's taking the win. Senior Olivia Musto came through contributing a solid three kills and Hoffman clinching two points as well. Points stayed even through the set before King's scored the last five points in a streak of a Galante kill, two Warrior's errors, a Hoffmann kill and a Miller termination.

Starting off strong, the Monarchs scored the first six points of the set with kills by Galante, Miller and Sarah Hayward and one of Hartzell's aces. Lycoming attempted to come back with three points of their own but were stopped by two back to back errors and would continue to give up points. Grace Frati was able to record a kill and Miller hit the set-winning point.

The fourth set was King's lowest hitting percentage of .114 and consisted of the most errors on their part. This was the Warriors best set of the night. Hartzell was able to slam three service aces in a row in the middle of the set and Miller supported with five kills of her own. Lycoming took the set after six unanswered points putting us into a fifth and final battle for the win.

Miller, Goldberg and Musto combined to keep the last set close and Hartzell scored her final ace in the match as both teams struggled to get the two-point lead and solidify the win. Hayward and Miller provided a huge stop at the net toward the end setting up the team for victory. Miller sank a kill followed by Musto to win the game and ultimately the match. The Monarchs hit their best percentage, a .375 in their final bout against the Warriors.

King's will head to Marywood University to compete in the Tri-Match held in Scranton, Pa. The Monarchs will face the host Marywood first at 11:00 a.m. and then play Pratt Institute at 1:00 p.m.
