Monarch Women’s Soccer Match Notes – Eastern

WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 26, 2018) – The King's College women's soccer team travels to St. Davids this Saturday to take on Eastern University at 12 p.m. in their regular season finale. This match will determine who gets the fourth and final conference tournament spot which would be the program's first conference tournament appearance since 2015.

Last Time Out: The Monarchs had their best offensive output of the season in a 7-0 victory over Keystone on Tuesday. Danielle Putnam and Anna Lacalamita each scored twice while Allison Andrew added a goal and an assist. King's outshot the Giants 38-2 in the match.
 
The Eagles dropped a 2-1 decision at Franklin & Marshall College this past Wednesday in Lancaster, PA. Casey Avello scored the lone goal for Eastern on an assist from Zoe Galvin in the 60th minute to get her second goal of the season.
 
The Book On The Monarchs (7-8-0, 3-3-0 MAC Freedom):
  • King's can clinch their first postseason appearance since 2015 with a win or draw on Saturday.
  • The Monarchs are 3-8 all-time against the Eagles but have won three of the past five meetings. KC is 1-3 when playing in St. Davids but came away with a 2-1 victory in their last trip down the turnpike two years ago. Eastern won last year's matchup 2-1 in Wilkes-Barre.
  • Junior Danielle Putnam moved up to 12th in the conference in points with 12 after her five-point night in her final match at McCarthy Stadium. She now has four goals and four assists with three of her goals being game-winning goals.
  • Anna Lacalamita finally broke through with two goals on Tuesday to give her three for the season. The junior has been on the cusp of scoring recently as she looks to end her Monarch career with a conference tournament berth.
  • Three sophomores have been key on the offensive side for Monarchs this year. Emma Baumbusch scored the game-winning goal against the Aggies on Saturday and has recorded two assists. Emily Harrington has scored two goals, including the game-winner against FDU-Florham, and has two assists. Stephanie Corea has added two assists in the midfield.
  • Junior Jess Schenfeld recorded another shutout victory in goal last Saturday and has seen a lot of action lately as King's makes a push to earn the final tournament berth. In six appearances this season she has recorded a 3-1 record with a 0.46 goals against average and a .867 save percentage in 392:32 minutes of work.
  • Tara Bender has seen most of the action in net this season and was named the MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week a few weeks ago. She has recorded a 1.95 goals against average and a .731 save percentage. The freshman is 4-7 in 969:01 minutes of action while her 4.75 saves per match is fourth in the conference.
  • Freshman defender Kara Keim has scored three beautiful goals from distance this year. Keim scored her first two goals in a week span to be named the MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week on September 24th.
The Book On The Eagles (6-10-1, 2-3-1 MAC Freedom):
  • Eastern enters Saturday's important season finale on a two-match losing streak after losses to DeSales and F&M. The Eagles have won just twice since conference play began on September 29th and will need to beat the Monarchs to keep their postseason hopes alive.
  • The Eagles are 4-4 on Olson Field this season including conference victories over Manhattanville and Delaware Valley.
  • Brandon West is in his second year of leading the Eagles after winning two National Championships as a goalkeeper at Messiah College. West led EU to a 7-8-4 record last year and earned a berth in the MAC Freedom Tournament.
  • The Eagles are being outscored 45-19 this season including 24-9 in the first 45 minutes of matches.
  • Junior Nicole Weenink is seventh in the conference with 15 points on six goals and three assists. She is tied for fifth in goals scored and recorded a goal and an assist against M'Ville and Del Val in conference play.
  • Sophomore Zoe Galvin has 10 points on two goals and a team-leading six assists. Her assists are tied for the second most in the MAC Freedom and she has recorded one in each of the past two matches.
  • Senior Alondra Cervantes and junior Amy Radcliffe have each scored three goals this season for the Eagles.
  • The Monarchs can expect to see Senior Adrianna Rowland in net on Saturday. The keeper has a 2.57 GAA this season with a .715 save percentage in 1436:35 minutes of work. She is ranked second in the conference in minutes played and saves per match with 6.06. The senior has also recorded four shutouts this year.
Up Next: The Monarchs next match will depend on the results of Saturday. A win or draw will have King's traveling to top-seeded Misericordia on Wednesday in the MAC Freedom semifinals. A loss will end the season.
