WILKES-BARRE, PA (November 13, 2018) -- The visiting Mules of Muhlenberg College used an 8-0 run midway through the second half to take a 10-point lead, pulling away for a 62-53 non-conference victory over the hosting King's College men's basketball team in the home opener from McGrane Gymnasium in Scandlon Physical Education Center.

The early going saw the Mules (1-1) take the advantage as Dallas Hoffman hit a layup at 14:04 of the first half to make the score 19-8, giving the Mules their largest lead of the half. The Monarchs slowly worked themselves back into the contest and tied the game at 22 after a lay-up by freshman JJ Glinsky after a steal from Joshua Bailey. King's finished its 11-2 run to take a two-point lead after Jake Pawliczak powered in for a layup to make the score 24-22.

After a three-pointer by James Willis gave the Monarchs another two-point cushion at 27-25, Muhlenberg responded with the final seven points of the half to take a 32-27 edge into the locker room for halftime. Muhlenberg would retain the lead until King's went on a 7-0 spurt to tie the game at 36 thanks to a triple from junior guard Tyler Millan. After King's tied the contest again at 38, Muhlenberg took the lead for good as it built its edge up to as much as 10 to earn the win.

Willis came off the bench to provide a spark for the Monarchs, scoring a team-best 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting, knocking own 2-of-4 from deep. Joe Lonardi added 10 points and six rebounds for King's and Pawliczak finished with eight points, three steals and a game-best 12 rebounds. Sophomore Noah Tanner also posted eight points, three assists and three rebounds, as the Monarchs shot 30.7 percent (21-of-73) from the floor, including making three of their 22 attempts from deep.
