Bryn Athyn Defeats King’s Men’s Ice Hockey 6-2

PITTSTON, PA (November 17, 2018) – Tanner Wilding and Jamie Lukas scored a goal each for the Monarchs on Saturday night as the King's College men's ice hockey team fell to visiting Bryn Athyn College 6-2 in a non-conference game at Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.

The Lions (2-5-0) scored two goals in each period while putting 56 shots on goal. Freshman Brandon Daigle made 50 saves in goal for the Monarchs (0-8-0). BAC had six different goal scorers and had nine skaters record at least a point.

Both teams struggled with penalties as the teams combined for 20 penalties for 48 minutes. King's recorded had 11 penalties for 30 minutes while the Lions recorded nine for 18 minutes. The Monarchs killed off six of seven Lion power plays in the game and scored their first short-handed goal of the year.

Devon Baker gave BAC the lead with 1:56 remaining in the first period on his third goals of the year as both teams had a player in the penalty box. Tanner Schroeder scored his third goal of the year 46 seconds later, two seconds after both teams returned to full strength.

The second period began with the Lions on the power play, but it was the Monarchs who would score as Wilding intercepted a pass and scored on a breakaway for his first goal of the year and third of his career. Bryn Athyn responded with two more goals in the period as Dakota Ulmer scored his second of the year at 2:30 and Alec Grollman scored BAC's lone power play goal of the night at 13:31. Ulmer's goal occurred two seconds after the Lions successfully killed a Monarch power play and Grollman's goal came 15 seconds into their own power play opportunity.

Julion Lever gave the Lions a 5-1 lead 6:28 into the third period with his first goal of the season. King's capitalized on a hooking penalty by Grollman with a power play goal 17 seconds into the extra man opportunity. Tyler O'Mara and Luciano Bucci assisted on the third goal of the year for Jamie Lukas. Nikita Smirnov set the final score with his second goal of the year at the 10:15 mark of the period.

Lukas and Nicholas Palumbo led the Monarchs with four shots each. Bucci was fantastic excellent on faceoffs all night winning 17 of 19 attempts. King's as a team was great on faceoffs for the second straight night winning 48 and losing 32. Daigle made 17 saves in the first period, 18 in the second, and 15 in the third for the second-most saves he has recorded in a game this year.

Becker and Smirnov led the Lions with four points on one goal and three assists each. Lever added three points on one goal and two assists while Ulmer had one goal and one assist. McKenzie Chalmers made 23 saves in goal to pick up the win.

The Monarchs will hit the road the next two weekends beginning with the WSYB/Catamount Radio Invitational next Friday and Saturday in Rutland, Vermont. King's will face host Castleton University on Friday night at 7 p.m. before taking on either The College at Brockport or Anna Maria College on Saturday in Spartan Arena.
