Sparks Advances to Second Day at Messiah Petrofes Invitational

GRANTHAM, PA (November 30, 2018) —  The Monarchs finished off the first day at the Messiah Petrofes Invitational as 12thout of 15 teams and advances Matt Sparks to the semi-finals. Dakota Quick will wrestle in the consolation brackets in an effort to place third in his weight class.
 
For the 125 weight class, Quick earned a bye early on before facing Dylan Williams of Waynesburg for the victory. Quick got the victory with a pin and advanced to face Seth Hayes of Mount Union for a shot in the quarter-finals. The junior fought hard but wasn't able to push through dropping in a major decision and being sent to the consolation brackets where after a quick pin in 37 seconds, he gets the chance to compete for the third place finish. 
 
Sparks breezed by his bouts with back to back major decisions against opponents before settling for the day in the quarterfinals where he will battle tomorrow to advance to the semis. His last match of the day was a decision win 6-4 versus Nick Monteleone of Springfield. 
 
FreshmanKade Kravits started the day off with a bye in the 157 weight class prelims. A hard fought loss pushed him to the consolation bracket and Kravits earned another bye before winning in a 11-0 major decision. He would collect one more victory before getting caught during a big move and pinned with just 52 seconds left in the dual. 
 
Nick Priceand Rene Sousa were the last two wrestlers for King's at the Invitational in the 174 weight class. Sousa recorded a big pin at the tournament and went 1-2 for the day. Price would go 1-1 and clock in a 13-5 major decision before the end of his run.
 
The Messiah Petrofes Invitational continues tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
