Second Period Dooms Men's Hockey In Road Loss To Manhattanville

RYE, NY (December 1, 2018) -- The host Valiants of Manhattanville College scored seven second-period goals to open up a 1-0 game after the first period, pulling away for a 9-1 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) victory in play from the Playland Ice Casino Saturday afternoon.

Coming off the first win in program history Friday evening, the Monarchs were slow to get started as Manhattanville outshot their visitors 17-4 in the opening period. Freshman goalkeeper Brandon Daigle continued his solid play, fending off 16 of the 17 attempts on goal to keep the Monarchs within striking distance after 20 minutes despite the Valiants tallying with 21 seconds to go in the first on a Alex Rowella power-play goal.

The second period was not kind to the Monarchs though, as Casper Dyrssen started a seven-goal period for the Valiants with a tally 2:19 in the period. King's would get on the board in the third period on the power play, as Christian La Croix struck with help from Luciano Bucci and Nicholas Palumbo. The goal for La Croix was his fourth of the season, and first since tallying on November 9 against Chatham.

La Croix led the way in the shot department for the Monarchs (1-11-0, 1-6-0 UCHC), firing five attempts on goal while defenseman Jack O'Neil posted three shots as well. Jamie Lukas also posted three shot attempts, as King's was outshot 38-24 on the contest. Daigle finished with 29 saves on the day.

Rowella and Lippa each tallied twice for the Valiants, while Marco Ferraro finished with five assists and Oscar Arfelt added four helpers. Lippa also chalked up two assists on the game, and Tyler Feaver posted 23 saves in the win for Manhattanville (5-2-2, 4-2-2 UCHC).

The Monarchs return to action at home against Nazareth College Friday, December 7 at 7 p.m. in Revolution Ice Centre in UCHC play.
