KING'S WOMEN FALL TO WILLIAM SMITH IN SERIES FINALE
PITTSTON -- Lindsay Brown scored twice and the visiting William Smith College women's ice hockey team opened a 4-0 first period lead en route to securing a 7-0 victory over King's College Sunday afternoon at Revolution Ice in Pittston.
With the win, William Smith improved to 15-5-4 overall and remain in second place in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference with a 11-2-3 mark. King's, meanwhile, slipped to 0-19-1 overall in its inaugural season of play and 0-13-1 in the UCHC. The Herrons won the weekend series opener on Saturday by a 9-0 count.
William Smith opened the scoring just 1:12 into the first period on a goal by Julie Mings. The Herrons added goals by Catherine Linehan and Brown before Eagan Sachs-Hecht made it a 4-0 game with 1:12 left in the opening stanza.
The Herrons scored the lone goal of the second period just 0:48 into the frame when Rebecca Begley struck net as William Smith took a 5-0 lead into the final period.
Emily Martino and Lindsay Brown added third period goals to set the final score.
The Herrons outshot King's 61-9 and held s 35-28 advantage in faceoffs won. King's goalie Emma Zeveney made 54 saves in the game while William Smith keeper Olivia Williams had nine stops..
King's returns to the ice Tuesday at 6:00 PM when the Lady Monarchs host SUNY-Cortland at Revolution Ice. The Lady Monarchs will then close out their first season with a Saturday-Sunday series at Utica College.
