Last Time Out: Danielle Putnam broke free early in the 78th minute to score from 35 yards out on a breakaway to give the Monarchs a 1-0 victory over Juniata College on Saturday.
Tara Bender recorded her first career shutout making four saves in a very defensive battle. There were 10 shots taken between both teams in the match.
The Book On The Monarchs (2-1):
- Junior Danielle Putnam led the Monarchs to two wins last week scoring both game-winning goals and adding an assist. She was honored on Monday by the conference office for her performance by being named the MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week. The forward is ranked 11th in the nation in game-winning goals and tied for fourth in the conference with five points.
- Junior Sophia Sacknievich has been a spark for the offense off the bench this season by scoring two goals in three games. Her two goals are the second-most scored in the MAC Freedom this year and she is tied for seventh in the conference with four points.
- Three sophomores have also done damage for King's this season. Emma Baumbusch is second in the conference with two assists, Emily Harrington has added a goal scored an assist, and Stephanie Corea has recorded an assist.
- Freshman keeper Tara Bender has made 12 saves in 236:13 minutes of action this season while facing 22 shots. She has a goals against average of 1.52 and a save percentage of .750. Jess Schenfeld did not face a shot in one half of action in King's season opener against Penn College.
- The Monarchs have the second-highest scoring average in the conference at 1.67 after scoring five goals in three games.
- King's has taken 42 shots this year and have allowed 22. They are averaging 14.0 shots per game and allowing 7.3. The Monarchs lead the MAC Freedom in corner kicks per game with 9.00. The Monarchs have taken 27 corners and only needed to defend 10.
The Book On The River Hawks (2-1-1):
- Susquehanna is 2-1-1 on the season after defeating Penn State Harrisburg 2-1 in overtime on Saturday afternoon. This is the River Hawk's second of three trips to the Wilkes-Barre area in the first three weeks of the season. They lost 2-0 at nationally-ranked Misericordia last week and will travel to face Wilkes in another midweek match next week.
- Senior Kate Cantrell has scored two of Susquehanna's three goals this season on 11 shots. She leads the Landmark Conference and is 11th in the nation with two game-winning goals.
- Freshman Anna Werner scored her first career goal on Saturday against the Lions and has taken 11 shots this season.
- The River Hawks have received one assist each from Emily Lefkowitz, Marley Ciendenin, and Emily Sullivan. Sullivan leads the team and is second in the Landmark Conference with 18 shots taken.
- Susquehanna has received outstanding goalkeeping from sophomore Madison Welliver. She has made a Landmark-leading 22 saves on 31 shots faced with a GAA of 0.70 and a save percentage of .880. Her 387:56 minutes played is the second-most in the conference and 39th in the nation while her 5.50 saves per game leads the Landmark.
- The River Hawks have allowed three goals in four games and are outshooting their opponents 62-37. They have taken 13 corner kicks and defended 12.
- Susquehanna holds a 17-3-1 lead in the all-time series against the Monarchs including winning the past three matches. Every match between the teams over the last five years has been very competitive with just a goal separating the victor and the loser each year.
