Monarch Men’s Soccer Match Notes – SUNY New Paltz

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 13, 2018) – The King's College men's soccer team will be back in action on Saturday night for a primetime match against SUNY New Paltz at McCarthy Stadium.

Last Time Out: King's picked up their third straight win and fourth consecutive shutout with a 2-0 victory over Wells College on Wednesday night. Aidan DeCamillo scored a career-high two goals and Quentin Szeker-Cortes added an assist. The Monarchs dominated possession outshooting the Express 24-2 in the match. Owen Geedey made two saves in goal for the Monarchs.
 
The Book On The Monarchs (3-2-1):
  • Junior Aidan DeCamillo moved all the way up to tied for fourth in the MAC Freedom with his two goals on Wednesday. His five points are tied for sixth in the conference.
  • Senior Owen Geedey continues to lead the MAC Freedom and is fifth in the nation with 566:35 minutes played. The keeper has recorded four shutouts this season which is ranked third in the nation. He is currently the school record holder with 26 career shutouts. His .857 save percentage is third in the conference while his 0.32 goals against average is the best in the conference and 22nd in the nation.
  • The Monarchs have received one goal each from senior Steven Grebe, juniors August Axtman and Fabio Massa, and sophomore Liam McLoughlin. Junior Ryan Romeo and freshman Quentin Szeker-Cortes have recorded an assist each.
  • The King's defense has not allowed a goal in 393 minutes. The Monarchs moved up to 20th in the nation with a GAA of 0.32. The Monarchs have played the most minutes of anyone in the MAC Freedom and have given up the least amount of goals.
  • King's is outshooting their opponents 95-26 this year and have put 37 shots on goal through six matches. The Monarchs are allowing just 4.3 shots per game by their opponents. The team leads the conference with 47 corner kicks taken.
  • King's is 1-3 all-time against the Hawks of SUNY New Paltz. Their one victory occurred in 2008 in the only match between the programs that was played in Wilkes-Barre. The Hawks defeated the Monarchs 3-1 last year in New Paltz in the only recent meeting.
The Book On The Hawks (4-2):
  • New Paltz enter Saturday's night match with a 4-2 record after a close 1-0 loss at Vassar College on Wednesday. The Hawks have gone 3-1 in four road matches this year.
  • The Hawks lead the SUNYAC and are 17th in the nation with 17 goals. They are also 21st in the nation with 46 points and 27th with 12 assists.
  • Sophomore Kevin Doorley leads the attack with five goals and three assists. He is the top goal scorer in the SUNYAC and is 20th in the nation. His 13 total points rank him 14th in Division III. Doorley has taken 3.17 shots per game.
  • Sophomore Ryan Martinez is second on the team with nine points on three goals and three assists. He is third in the SUNYAC in points and goals and second in assists.
  • New Paltz has received goals from seven other players with Luke Dole and Sebastian Gordon-Somers-Archer recording two each and the other five scoring one apiece.
  • The Hawks are outshooting their opponents 98-53 this season and have put 46 shots on goal. New Paltz is three-for-three on penalty kicks and have taken 42 corner kicks while defending 18.
  • In goal sophomore Marc Pasquale has started four games and gone 3-1 with a 1.20 goals against average and a .667 save percentage. Senior John Guzzo has made two starts, including Wednesday's match against Vassar, and has gone 1-1 with a 1.25 GAA and a .800 save percentage.
